Our Mission

Our goals

01

Scientific Research

Ekleen supports and conducts preclinical and clinical research into psychoactive compounds, focusing on natural products with cultural and historical relevance to Greece and the Mediterranean. Our flagship project is the pharmacological reconstruction of the Eleusinian kykeon, followed by toxicological and human-centered trials.

02

Policy & Advocacy

We seek to collaborate on entheogenic policy frameworks in collaboration with governmental and public institutions in Greece and across Europe, advocating for legal pathways that respect both public health and sacred heritage. We hope to also lead efforts to inscribe the Eleusinian Mysteries as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.

03

Cultural Memory & Revival

We curate archives, events and immersive experiences; fund ethnobotanical fieldwork, and collaborate with historians, archaeologists, and Indigenous knowledge holders to protect and revive the ritual epistemologies of Greece. This includes the preservation of sacred plants and ceremonial practices once central to mystery traditions.

The Hellenic Center for Entheogenic Research (ΕΛ.ΚΕ.ΕΝ / ELKEEN) is a nonprofit research institute dedicated to advancing scientific, cultural, and ethical inquiry into entheogenic compounds and altered states of consciousness. We conduct and support cutting-edge research in ethnopharmacology, ritual pharmacognosy, and clinical science, rooted in Greece’s historical relationship with sacred pharmaka. Our mission is to restore Greece as a global contributor to psychedelic science—through rigorous research, cultural preservation, and policy leadership that honor both ancestral knowledge and modern innovation.

Ekleen is a scientific and cultural institute based in Greece, dedicated to the rigorous study of entheogens and the ritual and pharmacological legacies of the ancient Mediterranean.

Our mission is to catalyze cutting-edge psychedelic research in partnership with Greek and international universities, while reviving ancestral knowledge systems and protecting the cultural sovereignty of sacred pharmaka. We operate discreetly, ethically, and with a long-term vision to restore Greece’s rightful place in the global conversation on entheogenic science.
